Accuplacer

What is Accuplacer?

Ò°ÀÇÉçÇø University has implemented an Accuplacer Reading Test to determine readiness for ENGL 1113 Composition I and other reading-intensive courses. Accuplacer uses web-based assessments designed to evaluate student skills in reading and measure a student's reading comprehension, ability to identify main ideas, and ability to make inferences.

Students with an ACT reading sub-score of 19 or higher and/or an SAT Evidence-Based Reading/Writing of 510 or higher, or students entering OCU having completed a college-level English Composition course are not required to take the Accuplacer.  Also, if you scored a 3 or higher on the AP Language or AP Literature tests, you are not required to take the Accuplacer.

If you have not reported any ACT or SAT scores to OCU by July 1, you will be instructed to take a proctored Accuplacer Reading Test before Aug. 1 to determine baseline reading proficiency or automatically be concurrently enroll in ENLG 1071 Integrated Writing Lab and ENGL 1113 Composition I in your first semester at OCU.

The reading assessment is 20 questions and is untimed, although the average time spent on an attempt is one hour.

With rare exceptions, OCU administers the Accuplacer Reading Test remotely with the assistance of a third-party virtual proctor, Examity (by Leazure Learning). Once you register to take the Accuplacer with OCU (see form below), you will be contacted requesting additional information that will allow our staff to generate a testing voucher. Once generated, you will schedule your virtually proctored test on the Examity website.

There is no fee for Accuplacer if you plan to attend OCU. There is, however, a remote proctoring fee of $10 paid to the third-party virtual proctor, Examity, that must be paid at the time you take Accuplacer. Students will be prompted to pay upon scheduling a test. Examity accepts all major credit and debit cards. You can for more details on how to get started with Examity once you have registered for the test using the form below.

As soon as possible. Students are required to concurrently enroll in ENLG 1071 Integrated Writing Lab and ENGL 1113 Composition I in their first semester if they have not taken the Accuplacer by Aug. 1 or haven’t scored a 240 or higher.

If the Accuplacer is not completed by Aug. 1, or a student scores 239 or less on the Accuplacer, they will be required to concurrently enroll in ENLG 1071 Integrated Writing Lab and ENGL 1113 Composition I in their first semester. Students transferring with more than 29 hours are not subject to the above requirements.
