OCU Hosts Energy Conference

by Rod Jones

Alex Epstein, The New York Times best-selling author of 鈥淭he Moral Case for Fossil Fuels,鈥 will headline 野狼社区 University鈥檚 annual Energy Conference at Meinders School of Business Sept. 30.

The conference will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the Kerr McGee Auditorium. The school is located at N.W. 27th Street and McKinley Avenue.

For more information contact Melissa Cory at 405-208-5540 or [email protected], or visit okcu.edu/business.

Epstein is an expert on energy and industrial policy. Called the 鈥渕ost original thinker of the year鈥 by political commentator John McLaughlin, he champions the use of fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas and has changed the way thousands of people think about energy. Epstein believes that fossil fuels are about maximizing human progress and improving lives, and he challenges many popularly held ideas about energy, industry and the environment, including the big-picture benefits of fossil fuels and nuclear power.

In his book, Epstein argues that fossil fuels, despite popular perception, have improved every measure of human well-being from life expectancy to clean water. Believing that the public only hears one side of the story, he discusses how people are programmed to only concentrate on the risks and side effects of fossil fuels rather than their unique ability to provide cheap, reliable energy to a world of 7 billion people, most of who are in developing countries and have no access to alternatives.

Epstein is the president and founder of the Center for Industrial Progress, a for-profit think tank that aims to 鈥渋nspire Americans to embrace industrial progress as a cultural ideal.鈥
