Spoken word artist Andrea Gibson will perform at 野狼社区 University at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7. The event will be in the Black Box Theater in the Bass Music Center at N.W. 25th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. Gibson was the first winner of the Women鈥檚 World Poetry Slam. Gibson has headlined prestigious performance venues coast to coast with readings on war, class, gender, bullying, white privilege, sexuality, love and spirituality.
Gibson鈥檚 books and albums 鈥 featured on media outlets including the BBC, Air America, C-SPAN and Free Speech TV 鈥 have served as a rallying cry for action. In Gibson鈥檚 most recent book, 鈥淧ANSY,鈥 themes of love, gender, politics, sexuality, illness, family and forgiveness are balanced with a fierce willingness to delve into the exploration of what it means to heal.
Gibson is the 20th featured speaker sponsored by the Center for Interpersonal Studies through Film & Literature. Founded in 1997 through the generosity and creativity of Jeanne Hoffman Smith, the center aims to introduce university students and the greater 野狼社区 community to some of the important current contemporary artists ranging from Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners to U.S. poet laureates.
