BATAP Festival of New Works

Calling all artists!

Are you sitting on a pile of untouched artistic gold all to yourself? Do you have a burning desire to share your artistic passions with your local community? Have we got a show for you! The BA Theatre and Performance (BATAP) Program class of 2020 is here to ignite your artistic journey with a showcase opportunity just for you.

Submissions are now open for any and all local artists for the Festival of New Works 2020 coming to you this spring. We are accepting material that applies to a variety of artistic categories (Film, Visual Arts, Literary Works, One Acts, Comedy, Music).

The deadline for submissions is March 6 at 5 p.m.

The Festival of New Works will run from April 29 through May 2. It is strongly suggested that artists be in attendance for the Festival.

Submissions must be emailed to [email protected] for review by their respective committee.

Submission Guidelines:

Film

  • Maximum film time limit: 20 minutes
  • Must disclose trigger warnings (if necessary)
  • PDF Artist's Statement (One page maximum, Emailed)
  • MP4 or MOV. 5-minute clip of film (Emailed)

Visual Art

  • JPEG(s) of sculptures, drawings, photography, and paintings (Emailed)
  • PDF Artist statement (One page maximum, Emailed)

Literary Works

  • Poetry or short stories
  • Can be fiction or nonfiction
  • Content should have a thriller/horror theme and/or be about mental health
  • Literary works submitted as a PDF and emailed
  • Stories and poems should be able to be read/performed in no longer than 5 mins (around 1 to 2 pages for a short story)
  • You can either read your work or find someone to read it for you during the event

One Act Plays

  • 20 minute maximum
  • PDF Synopsis, one page maximum (Emailed)
  • PDF of play (Emailed)
  • Content should be about mental health or be a thriller/horror
  • No more than six actors in your production
  • You are responsible for getting a director and actors (We can help if asked)
  • PDF Statement about how you’d go about production (Emailed)
  • This work should not be previously performed (staged reading, full production)

Comedy

  • Accepting materials in the form of sketch, stand-up, improv troupes
  • 10 minute maximum
  • Written material in PDF form
  • Video submissions accepted

Music

  • Must submit two MP3 tracks to potentially be performed live
  • Invitation for interview process
  • Must be able to provide necessary musical equipment and instrumentalists for performance
