The Norick Art Center at Ò°ÀÇÉçÇø University will host an exhibit from a collaborative visual art group called Creaturealm Oklahoma from April 8-May 27, with an opening event from 5 to 7 p.m. April 14.
The exhibit will be in the art center’s Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery, 1608 NW 26.
Creaturealm was formed more than a decade ago by three artists - Lawrence Kincheloe, Chris McDaniel and Nick Lillard - to refine a process of making performance art and site-specific sculptures with integrated technology and reclaimed materials.
The group continues to grow with member Ashley Morrison, who plays a key role in the collective’s effort to address diversity, equity and inclusion, while also having an editorial and organizational influence within the group. Morrison’s efforts are showcased in the form of video and presentation, while another member, October Merrill, contributes paintings and collaborative sculptures. Brandon Seekins’ creative influence is seen and heard throughout the show, as he uses different forms of technology to add life to the creatures and installations.
Each contributor creates their own artwork within the boundaries of a predetermined task and agreed-upon standards. Within the exhibit are an array of processes that are used for different purposes. Some of those efforts involve interacting with others directly, and other aspects are focused on how the artwork interacts with the public. As the group continues to develop and refine its approach, increasingly interactive, immersive and heavily layered art emerges.
Hours at the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Admission is free to the public.
